YAI Provides Emergency Assistance To Marginalized Karamajong People
Youth Action International’s country office in Uganda is providing emergency medical and nutrition assistance to children belonging to the Karamajong tribe in Uganda. Youth Action International began the emergency humanitarian assistance in December after discovering that hundreds of Karamajong children living in Kampala were sick and did not have access to medical attention.
Most of the children were sick with malaria and cholera but could not afford to see a doctor. YAI’s country staff report that several of the children die on a regular basis. Hundreds of Karamajong children spend long hours during the day begging on the streets of Kampala. Some of the children are younger than a year old. YAI’s office in Uganda is also working with government and NGO partners to resettle the Karamajongs to areas where they can become self sustainable.
