YAI ASSIGNS REGIONAL DIRECTOR TO WEST AFRICA
Monrovia, Liberia: Eve de la Mothe Karoubi has taken up temporary assignment as Youth Action International’s Regional Director in West Africa. Although based in Liberia, Eve will help to coordinate YAI’s activities in Sierra Leone as well as explore opening a new office in the Ivory Coast. While in West Africa, Eve will host workshops on conflict resolution, and help launch a series of new YAI programs for women and youth. Eve de la Mothe Karoubi received her B.A. cum laude from Smith College in 2006 where she majored in Government and minored in African Studies. After graduating, she worked for several grassroots NGOs in Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya and eventually spent several months at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Tanzania.
In June 2007, Eve was awarded one of the prestigious Insight Fellowships, a yearlong program in conflict resolution. For the first three months of the Fellowship, Eve received intensive training and coaching in advanced mediation and conflict management skills in Boston. Her second placement was at the International Criminal Court in The Hague where she worked as a consultant to the Prosecutor. Currently, Eve is conducting research in Thailand at the Mahidol University Center for Human Rights and applying conflict management techniques through teaching workshops on conflict transformation. Eve has been engaged with Youth Action International in several volunteer capacities since 2006. Youth Action International started in 2005 by Liberian child rights activist Kimmie weeks. Kimmie Weeks notes that assigning Eve to Liberia is one of many efforts to ensure that YAI scales up its work in West Africa and continue to deliver comprehensive programs to war affected families.
