Youth Action International’s offices in Liberia and Sierra Leone are actively engaged in efforts to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).    The organization is supporting youth organizations by donating prevention awareness materials, hand washing stations for communities that do not have access to water, and providing emergency food packages for orphanages, people with disabilities and the elderly.

The cases in both countries are rapidly increasing and coupled with poor health facilities, African countries have a high risk that the outbreak will be especially devastating.    This is why YAI is implementing similar community awareness campaigns that we implemented during the Ebola outbreak a few years ago.   BY empowering and supporting the efforts of 50 community-based youth organization we are able to disseminate COVID-19 prevention messages and distribute medical and non medical supplies to various communities.

Like many countries in the world, the governments of West African countries are moving to implement a lock down in a bid to reduce the spread.    However, in countries where most families must sell or work as day laborers to feed their families, this is particularly challenging as many families now have to make a choice between health or hunger.

YAI has begun a safety net feeding program to provide food packages to 333 vulnerable families and households during the crisis period.
